Djibouti Hosts Regional Quran Contest

The 15th edition of a regional Quran competition in Africa kicked off in Djibouti on Monday, July 7.

Representatives from 12 East African countries are attending the competition, which will last a week, French.china website reports.

The 40 contenders from Djibouti, Rwanda, Somalia, Ethiopia, Sudan, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Mauritania, the Comoros Islands, and Zanzibar as well as Yemen compete in the categories of memorization of the entire Quran, memorization of 20 Juzes (sections) and memorization of 10 Juzes.

Djiboutian president is expected to officiate the closing ceremony on Saturday where the three top winners will be awarded.

Titled "Head of the Government Grand Award", the regional Quran competition was first organized in 1999 with the aim of encouraging the youth to learn the Holy Quran.
