Ethiopian troops moving to Al Shabab-held areas in Central Somalia

Contingents of Ethiopian forces arrived the city of Dhuusa Mareeb, the provincial capital of Somalia’s central Galgaduud region on Thursday. The troops arrived in the city last night and were expected to move to Al Shabab-held areas in the region according to officials.

“A large number of Ethiopian troops entered the city last night, they heavily armed and they came on battle wagons, people in the city have welcomed them very well” a woman in the city told the media on Thursday morning.

“Previously the Ethiopian troops were here in the city of Dhuusa Mareeb but those, arrived last night are completely different as they are wearing the African Union military dress ” the eye witness told the media earlier on Thursday.

The Ethiopian forces who recently joined the AU peace keeping mission in Somalia, will help Somali government oust Al Shabaab fighters from the central regions, according to the chairman of Guri El district Mr. Osman Isse Nur popularly known as ‘Taar Dhuleed’.

“They are heading to other parts in the region to removal of Al Shabab terrorists from more lands in central Somalia” the government official told the media earlier.
