Pierce County man gets 25 years for 2009 slaying of cab driver

A 37-year-old Pierce County man was sentenced to 25 years in prison on Friday for killing a cab driver five years ago.

Jaycee Fuller was convicted in November of first-degree murder in the slaying of Mohamud Ahmed on March 8, 2009.

Prosecutors told jurors that Fuller, who represented himself at trial, was motivated by financial desperation and resentment toward immigrants when he slit Ahmed’s throad and stabbed him in the liver while attempting to rob the 22-year-old Somali immigrant.

Police found Ahmed outside his cab with the meter still running along with a cap with Ahmed’s blood on the outside and Fuller’s DNA on the inside, according to the Pierce County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

Fuller had been convicted of the crime before, but his first conviction was overturned on appeal.
