UK: West Midlands Police Commissioner Candidate Vows to End Harassments on Somali Community.

Birmingham, UK (HOL) - As the election of the West midlands police and crime commissioner is approaching, one of the main candidates for the post and long-time politician Barrister Ayoub Khan has vowed to end many problems facing the Somali community in the West Midland Region including children experiencing pulling, harassments at schools, racism and many others.

During a press conference at his office in the city of Birmingham on Wednesday, Mr Khan said that the 21st of August election is important for the Somali community to have a decision on their future.

“Next Thursday Somali Community in West Midlands must vote for the candidate who understands the needs of the community and can solve their problems ” Barrister Ayoub Khan said in his press conference on Wednesday.

“I have worked in the Somali community for many years and I understand the difficulties that they face, whether it is harassment or racism —the Somali people are facing some very serious challenges and I know how it feels when they are targeted and abused, Insha Allah with your support in this election you can make the difference ” the Barrister explained.

Mr. Khan said that in the West midlands region's crime rate is high particularly hate crimes and it is getting worse. “If I am elected I will closely work with the Somali community and try to solve their problems.

“I encourage all Somalis in the West midlands, please go out and exercise you rights of voting” the Libdem candidate said at his press conference which was participated by only Somali journalists.

 Somali community pledges of support

Key Somali community leaders in the West midland region who attended the press conference expressed their support to Mr. Khan.

Dr. Cabdulqaadir Ruumi who is one of the community leaders said that Ayoub Khan had helped the Somali people for the period he served as the co-ordinator for community relations and security in the city of Birmingham.

However, Fahmo Arale and Hoda Hashi who spoke at the press conference on the behalf of Somali Mothers said they know the kind of increasing problems their children are facing and to get those problems solved they will encourage Somali mothers across the west midlands region to vote for Mr. Ayoub Khan.

The following persons have been nominated for the election of a Police and Crime Commissioner on Thursday 21st August 2014 for the West Midlands Police Area:

David Charles Jamieson – Labour Party

Les Jones – Conservative Party

Ayoub Khan – Liberal Democrats

Keith Alexander Rowe – UK Independence Party (UKIP)
