The United Arab Emirates has donated battle wagons and other equipment to Somali National Security and Intelligence Agency on Saturday as part of the Arab government’s assistance to the war-weary horn of Africa nation.

The UAE ambassador to Somalia presented the equipment to the director of the National Intelligence Agency General Bashir Mohamed Jama during a colourful presentation ceremony at the Security Agency’s compound in Mogadishu on Saturday.

UAE ambassador to the country Mohamed Al- Othman said that the donation was part of his country’s assistance to Somalia to help with the restoration of peace and security into the country.

“We are continuing to help Somalia because of the brotherly and historic relations between Somalia and the United Arab Emirates” Ambassador Al-Othmani said as he was handing over the donation to National Security and Intelligence Agency chief General Bashir Mohamed Jama.

“The people and the government of UAE are always committed to continuing their assistance to the brothers and sisters in Somalia—Our assistance will go to different sectors including security, education, health and key other public services” ambassador Al-Othmani noted.

On the behalf of the federal government of Somalia, the National Intelligence and Security Agency boss General Bashir Mohamed Jama thanked the UAE government for its commitment to support Somalia to recover from decades of lawlessness.

“Here is a huge donation from the brother government of United Arab Emirates and it was in particularly allocated for the security forces—we are grateful to UAE who has always been standing along side Somali people in all difficulties” General Bashir Mohamed Jama said during the ceremony on Saturday.

For the past several years, the UAE has increased its assistance to Somalia to help the country emerge from years of anarchy.

The UAE ambassador and that of Turkey are the sole international diplomatic figures who live in residential areas in Mogadishu, while other international diplomats live in the heavily-guarded Halane neighborhood south west of the capital.
