The governor of Middle Shabelle region Engineer Abdi Jinow Alasow threatened that his administration will punish those who were behind the deadly fighting in the Bal’ad district in the region which claimed the lives of nearly 10 people on Friday.

The fighting which erupted between members from Somali police and military in the region killed at least 9 soldiers while wounding more than 15 others. Residents said that all those wounded or killed in the fighting were government soldiers.

“We are under investigations to find out who was exactly responsible for the deadly fighting and any one found of guilty of involving or being responsible for what happened in the region on Friday will be taken to court and prosecuted.” the regional governor Engineer Abdi Jinow Alasow told the media.

The governor said that his administration was very sorry for the return of armed confrontation in the region emphasising that his administration was committed to carrying out justce for those who were responsible for the fighting.

It was nearly two weeks ago when several soldiers were killed during confrontation between rival forces in the Elma’an area east of the capital Mogadishu.

The fighting was somehow related to the dispute between the regional governor and Bal’ad district commissioner who boycotted to accept the decree which ordered his removal.

There have been several deadly clashes in the region since the governor fired Bal’ad district commissioner six months ago, but the commissioner was still reluctant to leave office.
