Sana’a: A Yemeni man was killed by his younger brother after a furious row over who should handle the TV remote control, local media outlets reported.
Aden Al Ghad, an independent weekly newspaper, said that the killing occurred on Thursday in the district of Khanfar in Abyan province when a father and his three sons were sitting in their house watching TV. A sudden argument erupted between two of the brothers over who should have the TV remote control and watch his favourite channel. One of the feuding brothers preferred to put an end to the row by aiming his gun at his brother and squeezing the trigger. The bullet killed the brother, penetrated the father’s armpit and settled in the youngest son’s chest who luckily survived.
Last week, a secondary school student stabbed two of his classmates to death following a personal row in the province of Hajja, the government-run Al Jamhuriadaily reported. The school’s director said that the fighting took place outside the school and the injured students were taken to hospital without giving any details about the kind of row.
At the same time, the ministry of interior registered a record number of homicide cases last month. The ministry said last week that 168 Yemenis were arrested for committing 82 murder crimes that killed 124 people in across the country
Among the top reasons behind these crimes were family and land disputes and revenge. Also, Yemen police said that seven people, including two young Somali migrants, committed suicide in the last four days. One of the Somali set her body ablaze and the other shot herself dead in Al Jawf province. The police attributed the cases to family disputes.
