The speaker of the federal parliament of Somalia Mohamed Sheik Osman Jawaari has arrived in Rome for bilateral talks with his Italian counterpart to build up co-operative ties between both parliaments.
Mr Jawaari and his delegation were received at Viumicino International airport of Rome by Italian government officials and Somali ambassador to that country, as members from Somali community in Italy were also waiting him at airport hours before his arrival late on Sunday.
Talking to reporters at the airport, the Somali speaker said that his delegation arrived in Italy on an official invitation from Italian counterpart Laura Boldrini and they will discuss on the establishment of major co-operations between both parliaments.
“I am very hopeful that my visit to Italy will pave the way for a greater cooperation between Somalia and Italy who share long-standing political and economic relations” the Somali parliament speaker told journalists at Viumicino International airport upon arrival on Sunday.
During his 5-day visit Mr Jawari will hold meetings with the first speaker of Italian parliament, Italian senate chairperson, lawmakers and members from political parties in Italy.
The Somali delegation will also visit historic sites in Italy and key cities including Napoli
