Wajir MP opposed to terror crackdown

Friday, April 11, 2014

WAJIR East MP Abass Shiekh has criticised the on going security crackdown on suspected criminals. He said the operation that netted members of the Somali community in Eastliegh has been misused by the police.

“All leaders from the Somali Community held a meeting with the Deputy President William Ruto and heads of security arms. They promised us that they will stop the operation but that is not the case," he said.

Abass said they are against harrassment of innocent members of one community. "We will be firm in ending this harassment, even if it means resigning in defence of our people," he said.

Abass says the Geneva Convention allows refugees to living anywhere without detention.

“Since independence crimes against humanity were ‘bestowed’ upon Somalis and now there are unconfirmed reports of rape cases which are very painful,” Abass said.

He asked members of the Somali community to cooperate with security agents in flashing out suspected terrorists. Abass was speaking to the press during a road inspection exercise in Wajer Bor yesterday. Governor Ahmed Abullahi and Deputy Governor Abdihafid Abdullahi were present.
