A section of Jubilee Members of Parliament had reportedly hatched a plot to, “tame,” Duale over his criticism of the police’s handling of the war on terror.

NAIROBI – Mandera Senator Billow Kerrow on Sunday came to the defence of the Leader of Majority Coalition in the National Assembly, Aden Duale, over his criticism of the police crackdown in Eastleigh, Nairobi.
Kerrow said Duale had every right to defend the rights of, “his people,” and that it shouldn’t be construed as an act of rebellion against the Jubilee government of which he is a part.
“In 2007 post-election violence, (President Uhuru Kenyatta) was on record using the same terms, that they will defend their community, meaning the Kikuyus. At the same time, when thousands of Kalenjin youth were arrested, all their leaders including the Deputy President vented their anger demanding their immediate release. Ours is no different!” he stated emphatically in reference to the security swoop which has netted a number of Kenyan Somalis as well.
He continued to state that Duale and other Jubilee leaders from the Somali community would not be cowed by the threats of sanctions and would continue to advocate for the fair treatment of the Muslim community.
“Duale and most of the leaders from the predominantly Muslim regions in Jubilee are not happy with the approach used by the government in combating terrorism in Nairobi, not in the least because it targets a certain community and the operations are largely done in a manner inconsistent with the laws of the country,” he stated.
He said they would not be forced to leave the coalition either despite Duale having reportedly told Eastleigh residents that he would rather resign from the Jubilee coalition than see them be harassed by police.
“Those who think we are in Jubilee as guests should know that we are not going anywhere and will do whatever it takes to claim our stakes in the government that we helped bring to power,” Kerrow stated.
He added that it was unfair for Duale to be persecuted for his loyalty to the Muslim community as he had demonstrated his loyalty to the Jubilee Coalition on numerous occasions.
“He cannot be right when he fights for defense of Uhuru and Ruto against their persection but be wrong when he stands up for his community. But I urge these detractors to bring it on!” Kerrow said.
