AN 18-year-old Somali citizen was yesterday charged in a Nairobi court with terrorism. Abdurizak Mohammed Hussein was charged that on March 5, he hurled a grenade at a shop in Easteligh area and injured one person.

Hussein threw the grenade at Mama Kellen's Shop, on Ridwan House, Eastleigh, and injured Naomi Nyambura, the court heard. He faces a second count of being unlawfully in Kenya without a valid permit or pass on the same day and providing false information on his country of birth. Hussein denied all charges before Nairobi Chief Magistrate Kiarie Waweru and pleaded for release so that he could return to school. His parents forwarded a birth certificate to the court to prove he was 17 years old.

But Kiarie said the court could not rely on the certificate as it is part of the charges Hussein was facing.Hussein was released on a Sh800,000 bond and surety of similar amount pending hearing of the case on April 29.
