A 45-day military training course was launched Thursday (January 24th) at Lama Galay camp outside Beledweyne to integrate more than 1,000 clan militia members into Somali government forces, UN-funded Radio Bar-Kulan reported.
African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) officers will train the clan members in military skills and discipline.
Regional Force Commander Colonel Osman Dubbad Subugle said in a speech at the opening ceremony that the integration of more Somalis into the armed forces would strengthen the Somali military and diminish its need for foreign support.
This is the third such training operated by AMISOM, which has already trained 200 militia members for integration into the national armed forces.
