Sunday April 8, 2012; (HOL) Mawlid Ma’ane a lawmaker who was injured in a suicide bomb attack inside the Somali National Theater on April 4, 2012 succumbed to his injuries and passed away in Agha-Khan Hospital in Nairobi late last night.
The outspoken member of parliament was a national figure and a strong defender and advocate for the rights of the marginalized Jereerweyne Community in Somalia.
He will be remembered for his role in the establishment of the transitional federal government in 2004. Mawlid served as the Sports Minister of the government of the late president Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed. Several government officials attended the funeral service of the late e Mawlid Ma’ane in Nairobi including Somalia’s ambassador to Kenya Mohamed Ali Nur, where he was then laid to rest at Langata cemetery.
He is the second government official to succumb to the injuries sustained in the theatre blast. Hours before that Faysal Haji Elmi one of the aids of premier Abdiwali was pronounced dead in another hospital in Nairobi.
It was last Wednesday when a female suicide bomber attacked the Somali national theatre killing 10 people and injuring dozens.
