The Somali government said security has been restored in Luq in the Gedo region, UN-funded Radio Bar-Kulan reported Sunday (October 28th).
Area District Commissioner Abdullahi Kuredow said Somali forces and their allies now have full control of the entire district and urged aid agencies to resume operations in Luq. He said the government has initiated a deal with several aid organisations who want to re-open their offices, which would provide much-needed employment opportunities for youth.
A delegation of senior United Nations officials visited Luq in April to assess the humanitarian needs of people affected by drought in the area.
