Diplomat Asks for Iran's Aid to Somalia's Stability

Somali Ambassador to Tehran Khalifa Kadiyah Moussa urged Tehran to help his country to stabilize the status of the central government, lauding Iran's aid and cooperation in the past.

"Somalia is an Islamic country too and we want our (Iranian) brothers not to forget our nation and government," Moussa told FNA on Saturday.

He praised the Iranian people, government and the Red Crescent Society (RCS) for sending large cargos of humanitarian aid to his famine-hit country.

Moussa also called on Tehran to share experiences with Somalia in areas of oil industry, building different factories and mining, and suggested, "Somalia can cooperate with Iran by exporting meat, fish, banana and vegetables" to the Islamic Republic.

The Islamic Republic of Iran was among the first countries which rushed to the aid of the Somali people and it has dispatched over 15 aid cargos to the African nation thus far.

In October, Iran shipped its largest cargo of humanitarian aids weighing about 5,000 tons to Somalia.

The cargo contained medicine, rice, flour, cereal, sugar, and some other goods.

A number of Iranian officials, including Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi, have visited Somalia to inspect the famine-hit areas and oversee the process of delivering aid to the country.

Somalia was the hardest-hit country by what was described as the worst drought in the Horn of Africa in 60 years.
