Despite the Unated Nations announcement
of ending the famine in Somalia, government says there is still need of assistance
in some regions of the country .
Deputy prime minister and minister of defence Hussien Arab
Isse urged all aid agencies to reach Gedo region in the south west of Somalia.
"We are fascinated of what we have seen in
Garbaharey,but we can’t notice the role of aid agencies in helping those venerable
in Gedo region”. Said the defence minister.
The minister re’iterated
his government’s commitment to insure basic needs of the citizens in the region
are met.
“We will not tolerate the suffering of our people, we want
aid agencies to provide basic needs of the population other wise we will do
that with our selves ”.Said Hussien Arab.
He made the remarks in Garbaharey town in Gedo region of
Somalia, where hundreds of cheering supporters turned out in a sign of
celebration, after a visit of government delegation led by the defence minister.
Garbaharey was one the strongholds of alshabab before they
were pushed out by Somali government forces with the support of Ahlu Sunna
Waljama’a militia.
