Relatives and the owner of a trawler have requested the government to intervene and secure the release of the five Sri Lankan fishermen who were abducted by Somalia pirates on September 27, 2011 demanding a ransom of Rs.680 million.
The owner of the multi-day fishing trawler Anthony Nihal Fernando (47) of Negombo said, the five fishermen called him at times after they were captured by the pirates, but he heard nothing from them after January 04.
He said he has informed President Rajapakse and the Ministry of Fisheries about the situation.
