Mogadishu mayhem flares up again

At least seven people were killed when fighting broke out among members of the Somali security forces in a Mogadishu neighbourhood on Saturday, officials and witnesses said.

The bloodshed erupted in a market section of the southern Hamarjajab district of the Somali capital after an argument broke out between police officers and recently-trained Somali government soldiers.

Most of the dead were from the two sides, but civilians were also caught in the crossfire, district commissioner Abdi Basid Mohamoud said.

"The information we are getting indicates there was argument before the fighting but we are still investigating," he said.

One witness, Ahmed Dige, said four of the dead were dressed in uniforms, while local grocer Ali Daud said more than 10 civilians were wounded.
