Qatar: Arab Foreign Ministers hold closed session

Arab Foreign Ministers held this evening a closed session at the Sheraton Doha Hotel under the chairmanship of H.E. the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem bin Jabor Al-Thani. During the session the ministers will complete discussion of topics on the agenda of the two-day 21st Arab Summit Conference, due to open here on Monday.

The topics, which they began to discuss during the morning session, cover the situation in Palestine, the Darfur issue, the situation in Sudan in the session, cover the situation in Palestine, the Darfur issue, the situation in Sudan in the light of the International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrant against the Sudanese President, the Situation in Somalia and Arab reconciliation efforts.

Their Highnesses the Arab foreign ministers opened their meetings at the Doha Sheraton hotel on Saturday morning to ratify the agenda of the 21st Arab summit Doha hosts on Monday and runs for two days.

Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Al Muallem whose country chaired the 20th Arab summit held in damascus addressed the opening session and dealt with the current Arab conditions and the challenges facing the Arab nation.

After delivering his address, H.E. Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassem Bin Jabor Al Thani, The Prime Minister and Foreign Minister chaired the meeting in capacity of his country Qatar, as chairman of the current 21st Doha summit.

In an inaugural address, H.E. Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem conveyed thanks to the Syrian foreign minister and Arab league secretary general for the efforts they exerted over the past year to tackle the current Arab issues.

H.E. the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister highlighted the importance of the topics tabled on the agenda inter-alia the Palestinian cause and the situations in Sudan and Iraq.

H.E. Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassem Bin Jabor Al Thani , The Prime Minister And Foreign Minister said today's meeting falls amid highly significant circumstances making it imperative on all to showcase more transparency and frankness to further enhance joint Arab action.

H.E. the prime minister and foreign minister warned against the huge challenges and perils facing the Arab nation saying,'' the Arab peoples are awaiting more actions than words from us''.

''We have studied with all frankness and transparency in yesterday's consultative session viewpoints and ideas for what should be done for the sake of the Arab matters of concern to the Arab nation at present and in the foreseeable future'', said H.E. the Qatari premier and foreign minister.

In his address, H.E. Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassem Bin Jabor Al Thani , The Prime Minister And Foreign Minister said the Arab foreign ministers have a full agenda of key significant topics which constitute deep concern to all parties inter-alia the Palestinian cause, the situation in Sudan and the international criminal court's (ICC) arrest warrant for Sudanese president Omar al Bashir , the conditions in Iraq, and Somalia .

''This makes it incumbent upon all of us to reach relevant positive results and find adequate solutions to these causes despite their complexity and difficulty'', said H.E. the Prime Minister And Foreign Minister.

Elaborating the Qatari senior official said the heinous crime Israel committed in the Gaza strip has aimed at breaking the will of the Palestinian people and undermining their resistance and steadfastness, but thanks to the brave and heroic resistance of the Palestinian people despite the Israeli war machines, pains, blockade and repression, such a target has not been realized at all.

Regarding the situation in Sudan H.E. Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassem Bin Jabor Al Thani , The Prime Minister And Foreign Minister regretted the international criminal court's (Icc) arrest warrant for Sudanese president Omar al Bashir noting that such a warrant has come at a time strenuous efforts are ongoing on part of Qatar within the context of the Afro-Arab ministerial committee and in coordination with the Joint UN, African Union mediator Djibrill Yipene Bassole for pushing forward the Darfur political process .

The Qatari Premier and Foreign Minister has underlined that Qatar would continue joint endeavors and with the support of the world community for bringing about a lasting settlement to the Darfur crisis creating an adequate atmosphere for peace there.

Concerning The Iraqi Affair, H.E. the Qatari Senior Official welcomed efforts underway on part of the Iraqi government to reinstate stability, security and national reconciliation there and affirmed Qatar's support and solidarity to all gestures and efforts geared for consolidating and cementing the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iraq.

Touching on the situation in Somalia, H.E. Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassem Bin Jabor Al Thani voiced Qatar's welcome of the accord that took place there of late and the election of sheikh Sharif Ahmed as president of Somalia and the formation of the Somali government considering it a positive step towards peace.

H.E. The Qatari Premier And Foreign Minister called upon all rival factions in Somalia to place the national interests of their country above any other considerations and jointly work for maintaining unity, security and stability of Somalia.
