Falls Church, VA (HOL) - Washington DC Metro Area Somali Community held an event in honor of the Somali Government's Special Envoy to the United States, Mr. Abukar Arman.
Mr. Abukar Arman and Mr. Abdikarim Jama, Chief of Staff to the President, engaged in lively discussion with the attendees about the importance of having Somali government representative in the U.S as well as other important issues on Somalia.
Mr. Arman thanked the community for the welcoming him. He stated that he came to Washington DC area, in part, to meet the community in order to solicit ideas and support from them. “ I came here to accept your advice and listen to your ideas” said Mr. Arman.
Mr.Abdirkarim Jama disclosed that Mr. Arman was reluctant accepting the position and in fact forwarded the names of others for consideration. After further deliberation, Mr. Arman accepted the position.
The community members who made remarks included Sadia Aden who organized the event, General Ahmed jama, Mumin Abdi Barre, Karama Mohamed, Mohamed Abdi, and Nur Haji Mugani. They emphasized the importance of supporting and financing a functioning Somali Embassy in the United States.
Mr. Abdirkarim Jama informed the community an initiative known as Friends of Somalia. The initiative is intended, in part, to channel the support of the Somali Diaspora to help their homeland.
Somalia presidnet H.E. Sharif Sheikh Ahmed has appointed Mr. Abukar Abdou Arman as his Special Envoy to the United States of America on Feb. 06, 2010.
