Ahlu Sunna Wal Jama’a forces recapture central Somali town

Mogadishu, 6, April, 2010 (HOL) - Ahlu Sunna Wal Jama, pro-government militias have re-seized Mataban district of Hiiraan region in central Somalia from Al-Shabab militants early Tuesday morning.

Local residents in Matabaan confirmed that Ahlu Sunna forces have recaptured the Central Somali town after Shabaab forces briefly captured the town.

The heavily armed militia of Ahlu Sunna made a surge after moving in from the town of Gure-ceel in the Gal-gadud region after after a brief skirmish with Al-shabaab forces. This has also been confirmed by Ahlu Sunna's spokesperson, Sheikh Abdullahi Abdurrahman Abu Yusuf

Al-Shabab captured the town from Ahlu Sunna after heavy fighting erupted between the two forces and claimed the lives of at least 10 people.

Sheikh Ali Mohamud Rage, Al-Shabab spokesperson told the media in Mogadishu that they withdrew after they had achieved their goals in the town.

For nearly 20 years bloodshed and anarchy has ignited across Somalia.
