Islamist leader says group ready for gov't attack

Friday, February 12, 2010

Sheikh Hassan Dahir Aweys, leader of the radical Islamist group of Hezbul Islam in Somalia, on Friday stated his group's readiness for a possible major government offensive on rebels in Mogadishu.

Aweys was speaking at a rally by hundreds of his group's supporters on the outskirts of Mogadishu, where thousands of the capital's residents live in camps for the internally displaced people.

"We tell you (the Somali government) that we are ready for a fight and that we will defend our country, people and religion if you move to massacre our people," Aweys told jubilant supporters of his group who carried banners and placards with anti-government slogans.

There has recently been widespread speculation that the Somali government backed by nearly 5,000 African Union peacekeepers plans to carry out a major onslaught against Islamist rebels in Mogadishu.

The Islamist leader, wanted by the U.S. of links to terrorism, also strongly denounced Washington's policy towards Somalia saying it was "hostile" to the people of Somalia .

Aweys condemned the decision by the Djibouti government to send nearly 450 soldiers to be part of the UN authorized African Union peacekeeping Mission known as AMISOM.

So far Uganda and Burundi have contributed troops to the Mission which, during its deployment in 2007, was envisaged to have 8,000 peacekeepers from African states before it transformed into a UN blue helmet operation.

Hundreds of civilians have been fleeing the city for the past weeks for fear of the possible confrontation between Islamist fighters and Somali government forces backed by AU forces in Mogadishu.

Dozens of civilians have either been killed or wounded for the past three days after clashes between the warring sides in Mogadishu which was punctuated by exchanges of heavy shelling that mainly landed in the pockets of remaining residential areas in the largely deserted coastal capital.

Gentlemen, if we assume:

a) Aweys is knowingly or unknowingly working for Foreign Interests;

b) the Shabaab are being infiltrated and are saying things that gives credibility to TFG
   and the so called 'international community' assertion that they are affiliated with
   Alqeda and are real threat not only to Somalia but to the whole region;

c) the 'international community' is not interested and in reality is working against the
   establishment of an EFFECTIVE government.

THEN, the question that begs an answer is: MAXAY GAA'LADU aka ‘International Community’ KA DAMAC SANTAHAY SOMALIA?

Ayagoo waxay doonayaan ka helaaya Shariif Xariif iyo ina Cabdirashiid, maxaa ku kalifaaya inay Caweys kiraystaan ama Shabaabka ka dhigaan wax anay ahayn?

 Waxaan ku faraxsanhay ineynu si u wada argnay gacan ku dhiigle Aweys.

This mafia boss may have relished the spotlight as a religious leader to his unsuspecting fans who thought that he was honest and faithful for many years because they didn't know the real Aweys.

Now that he is exposed as a foreign agent and this is not character assasination, alshabaab will excute him.

 "From Bossaso in (19991) Gedo in (1996) and Baidoa (2006), this old man seems to have made a successful career out of sending young children to an early grave.
I am coming to doubt this man’s sanity".

Nomad,
you are absolutely right in  your description of this moron's mental status.

Even if he is not working for an outside agency, he is still a liability. A calamity waiting to happen.

I am glad you are with me on this one. As you said, our country is on fire and there seems to be no end in sight.
Even if this man’s intentions are noble, his way of thinking, his stubbornness and warmongering are not desirable.
I myself don’t understand how he can be the most wanted man in the country and yet address crowds upon crowds in the open.  At the very least, people are letting him lurk around so that they can milk Xariifka to submission.

As far as the opposition groups are concerned, even they, themselves, know that they are infiltrated badly. Some of their declarations are suspect. We are part of this, we are part of that, we will attach this, we will attack that...

It will be just a matter of before the truth comes out.
Unfortunately, it might be too late for some.
