Roadside bomb kills 8 people riding in minibus in Somali capital

MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) - A roadside bomb killed eight civilians and wounded nine others when it exploded near a minibus full of passengers in the war-ravaged Somali capital on Sunday, witnesses and hospital staff said.

Hussein Ali, a resident of Wabari district in southern Mogadishu, said he saw eight bodies in the minibus.

Fadumo Dahir, a nurse at Medina hospital, said nine people had been admitted after the blast. Two were in critical condition, she said.

Thousands of Somalis were killed last year, many of them caught in the crossfire as Islamic insurgents battled government troops and their Ethiopian allies. An Islamic alliance gained control of Mogadishu and much of southern Somalia for the last half of 2006, until they were ousted by Ethiopian soldiers supporting the shaky U.N.-backed government.

Somalia has not had a functioning government since 1991, when rival warlords overthrew dictator Mohamed Siad Barre and turned on each other. The chaotic Horn of Africa nation is awash with weapons and divided among squabbling clans.

Walaal, Qalin-ku-dirire: maxaad adigu u qabatay dadkaaga kuu baahan? haddaad awooddo inaad wax qortid, waxaad leedahay cod dheer iyo mid gaabanba, fadlan use both to make peace. don't just say "maxaa waxaas loo samayn waayey"

I am told that the BUS was inspected by Ethiopian troops manning check point and held for a while before been released later. Shortly after released the BUS exploded.

They must have installed or attached some thing to the chassis of the BUS that caused the explosion.  Definitely!

All indications are pointing to a foul play. Not road side bomb as we are told here.

AGAIN, THIS IS NOT THE WORK OF THE RESISTANCE.

Those of you who are carelessly howling condemnation at the resistance are reminded that the enemy uses and utilizes different dirty tactics in order to tarnish the good name of the resistance.

This is another Ethiopian attempt aimed to pre-empt the improving relations between the resistance and the new prime Minster. Who else can do this heinous act? No one but the Ethiopians did this.

The enemy manoeuvres but remains the enemy. This another stupid manuever.

Collateral damage, tragedy and miscalculations are not part of the anarchist movement’s grand scheme-they care less of who gets caught in the middle. It’s given; a patriot considers collateral damage, while the anarchist exploits it!
stickorcarrot @ 2/3/2008 6:38 AM EST
who is responsible this? And please don't say it's collateral
damage. This is maddening.

It is sad and unfortunate that innocent somalis get killed by roadside bombs . It should have been the enemy's bodies that were scattered on the road instead
