The Somali community raised £500 for Children in Need, as groups across Northampton did their bit for Pudsey Bear.

They held an event to discuss how children in the community can integrate in culture and education.

Around 100 people – both children and adults – attended the event at the Salvation Army centre, in Tower Street, Northampton, which was organised by the Somali Youth Concern Group and Somali Union Woman.

Mustafa Abdullah, of the youth concern group, said: "We invited children aged between five and 16 years old  discuss the issues and come together and we're pleased families came.

"The children don't always have the chance to come together because they live in different parts of Northampton."

Among the issues discussed was funding for youth football. Refreshments were provided, which raised money through donations.

Friday night's television extravaganza raised more than £19 million for Children in Need, beating previous records.

The night of programming, hosted by Terry Wogan, saw the Spice Girls perform the official Children in Need single and return to the stage for the first time since reforming this year.

Recently-reformed Boyzone also made an appearance, while princess of pop Kylie, pictured right, performed her latest single.

TV stars from EastEnders and Doctor Who also featured in the night's programming.

In total, £19,089,771 was raised, of which £1,619,844 came from viewers in the East.

Northampton is a small town about 70 miles from london , united kingdom. It has a very large somali community who moved up there to avoid the bustling of london.
