Mogadishu: Another Darfur in the Making?

Innocent civilians in Mogadishu are being killed and maimed by Ethiopian security forces and the militia of the Transitional Federal Government (TFG). The atrocities being committed against innocent civilians in Mogadishu are war crimes and crimes against humanity. It is shameful and criminal to use tanks and heavy artillery against civilians.

Mogadishu is another Darfur in the making. It is sad to see that no one seems to care about the untold suffering of the helpless in Somalia. Unfortunately and sadly, the people of Mogadishu are not even allowed to bury their dead relatives and neighbors. We must not turn a blind eye to the suffering of innocent civilians.

Since the Ethiopian invasion of Somalia, thousands of civilians have been killed and maimed and more than 320,000 people have been forced to flee their homes. The abuses that are being carried out by the TFG and the Ethiopian security forces are worse than during the dreadful days of the warlords. Instead of working towards peace and reconciliation, the TFG and the Ethiopian forces are engaged in collective punishment of innocent civilians.

In Darfur, despite the failure to end the genocide, the international community continues to speak out against the suffering forcefully. Unfortunately, the people of Somalia continue to suffer while the international community turns the other way.

It is critical that the African Union expedite the deployment of the proposed peacekeeping force in Somalia. The presence of Ethiopian troops is the single major source of the violence in Mogadishu. Ethiopia must withdraw from Somalia and allow the deployment of a peacekeeping force.

Tiisa Daryeelaa Tu Kale ku Dara Congressman Donald Payne
ran against Congressman Peter Rodino in the 1980 and 1986
Democratic primaries but lost both times. Rodino retired in 1988,
and Congressman Donald Payne easily won his seat in the House of
Representatives to become New Jersey's first and currently only African
American member of Congress ! THE ONLY ONE..dadkiisa

First they sponsor the mercenery and let it happen and now they will act like they didnt know. please this is just double stand. million of somali people are suffering. and they keep the media of the the equation so that nobody knows what is going on in magadishu. Insha Allah we will over come this ordeal and one day we will look back and see the darkest somali history.

 Mr Congressman,

With your respect, you are entitled to your opinion, to breed what you like, but absolutely there is NO correlation between what is going on in Somalia and Darfur.  It is double standard, hypogracy or lack of knowledge to compare with Darfur crises to Somalia situation while Somalis and their government (TFG) are in a war with *t*e*r*r*o*r*i*s*t*s.  And they are facing the same problem that your government has and it applies the same in terms of casualties.

Therefore, TFG is there to do its job to hant, capture, or kill them with minimum innocent civilians casuality.

Regards,
TFG Defender.

our pleas and calls are paying off. Somalis just need to not lose the momentum and keep on making the noise.
concerned_cit @ 4/28/2007 12:46 PM EST
And the numbers, stats are actually facts gathered by UN it self; who can argue the situation in current Somalis is grave....guess no one except those with ties to the killers participating this action towards innocent Somalis and their assets
concerned_cit @ 4/28/2007 12:43 PM EST
Nope, this dude is actually well informed and concerned individual who sees a devastating results in the making in that part of this desastrous world. It's rather some what warning to the concerned nations and individuals to wake up and prevent another man made disaster in that part of the world.
Somalia1977 @ 4/28/2007 12:02 PM EST
Mogadishu is WORSE THAN darfur. It is reality what is going on in the captial and daily deaths increasing while amxaaro and Abdullahi+Gedi enjoy the killings of the Somali people.

Insha alah, we would notify the world what is happening and they could do something about it soon insha alah.
