Somali pirates, who have been holding a Taiwanese fishing vessel since the middle of last month, have reportedly killed one member of the crew.
A maritime official from neighbouring Kenya says the pirates killed the crewman because the ship's owners had failed to pay a ransom demand.
The Taiwanese trawler has been held by pirates for three weeks.
It was seized off the coast of Somalia and taken into inshore waters, where no rule of law exists.
Kenyan Seafarers Assistance Programme head Andrew Mwangura said the pirates had told him one of the crew had been killed because the ship's owners had failed to pay a ransom to get the vessel and its crew released.
There are reported to be have been 12 Chinese and two Taiwanese crew on board. The nationality of the man who was killed is not known.
In the meantime another ship, a Danish freighter with a crew of five, is also said to have been seized by pirates.
En route to the Kenyan port of Mombasa, it was last reported to have altered course towards the Somali capital, Mogadishu.
Somalia's waters are reported to be among the most dangerous in the world.
Islamists cracked down on the pirates last year but they were removed from power in the capital, Mogadishu, last December.

What else can we expect from criminal warlords led by Abdulahi Yusuf and Gedi. The only thing they can create is instability and chaos in which they thrive on. It is a well-documented fact that these pirates work for the warlords and its another means to continue with their criminal enterprise. Ordinary pirates would not get sattelite monitoring and phones. The only reason that the courts succeeded in stopping this evil practice is they wanted to stop all criminal activities.

Are we apologizing for the killing of this poor man, who is just a worker. Apologizing for this kind of acts shows what kind of low life you are, and the low value you have in life in general, sadly.

May be he fought back and he was trying to be hero. Those mooryaanis usually dont kill hostages.<<< qofkiiba lacag beey ku raadsanaayaan. Dantooda kuma jirto ineey dilaan.

Well done to the somali pirates again!!! You doing good job by protecting our waters.
You should not expect to be safe if you come to Somali waters. Fishing illegally, which the abstrian from metioning, should condemned. I hope that this sends a clear message to those who risk thier lives, thinking the propability of being siezed is low. If the Islamic courts are behind this, well thanks again guys. If some thungs are behind it, keep it up and stop robbing the Somali people and instead rob, kill, and sieze the invaders.
fishing in Somalia water is illegally anyways.
Why is it that all we read from that land of ours is sad and depressing ? the truth of the matter is some of those Somali warring factions are not in favour of peace and stability let alone the rest of the world who seem not to care about Somali affairs any more and left it in the hands of warlords and Ethiopian troops whos interest is to stop any genuine peace in Somalia and that is why people get killed in the city, ships seized and heavy ransom demanded by thugs
i think anyone who is doing illegal fishing inside the somali maritime should be made to stop that activity, but the passers by should be to pass in peace. i think its wrong to accuse the islamic courts without any sincere evidence that they are responsible for the piracy.
hassancosoble, now the courts main source of income is pirate business, cause all other are shut, except foriegn "T" network. kkkkkkkk
The islamist didnt stop nothing. The reason why piracy has re-appeared is because the same people who are involved in piracy called themselves islamic courts. When they got toppled they re-started their illicit trade.Yaan been laisu sheegin, mooriyan cimaamado soo xiratey ayaa maxkamado sheegtey. Haddana isla iyagii ayaa isbaaradii badda ku celiyey.
